The existing house was built in 1925 and in dire need of repair. Located in a transitional neighborhood in walking distance to Amazon HQ2, metro, shops, airport and restaurants, we decided to create an urban home for a family with an in-law suite and accessory dwelling unit on the lower level for potential rental income.
The design is inspired by today’s Scandinavian architecture combined with American amenities and space requirements. High ceilings and large window frames allow for lots of light that penetrates this house for a sophisticated look. The house has numerous spaces for entertaining with a two-sided fireplace as a centerpiece in the family and dining areas. The exterior façade is covered with a new type of wood treated to have a significantly longer life than traditional exterior wood products. This home has multiple outdoor spaces including two balconies, a fenced courtyard and an inviting front porch.
